Glow

Accessibility

One of the main aims of Glow is to give everyone access to the huge advantages of technology in learning. It means using assistive technology - a term which covers any technology which helps people who find it difficult to use ICT using conventional methods.

Some of the technology includes:

  • alternative keyboards and mice for people who have problems in hand-eye coordination
  • text-to-speech screen readers for the unsighted or partially sighted
  • large button keyboards
  • screen magnification software
  • colour definition adaptation.

Many potential users of Glow, including pupils, parents and staff, will already be making use of assistive technologies. The standards-based design will ensure all of these technologies work seamlessly with Glow.

Testing to make sure

We have tested the Glow portal to make sure it’s accessible - and we’re setting down firm guidelines to make sure it stays that way.
