Glow

LTS Online Service

Learning and Teaching Scotland (LTS) will manage national content for Glow, the timescales and the sources for its new content collections. LTS will also work with content providers to make their content available using Glow.

The role of LTS

LTS has three roles in ensuring that content is available on Glow:

  • acquiring new content for its Online Service
  • supporting local authorities and other public bodies to make their content available to users
  • working with industry and commercial providers to help make their content available and suited to Scottish needs.

General principles for providing content

Selection of content will be driven by strategic national needs such as requirements for new curricular areas or approaches arising from A Curriculum for Excellence.

Other principles will include:

  • meeting specific needs expressed by teachers during consultation
  • supporting alternative approaches to supporting children and young people’s learning
  • considering opportunities arising from the arrival of new technologies
  • promoting the use of Glow by providing access to rich media materials and interactive examples.

The LTS Online Service

LTS will continue to offer an outward-facing online service for end users via the world wide web. However, access to some areas of the service will require users to sign on to Glow.

The LTS Online Service will continue to develop and publish content to support the delivery of the curriculum and disseminate information and resources covering a wide range of activity within Scottish education and there will be special emphasis on providing content which reflects A Curriculum for Excellence and supports the continuing professional development of teachers and other educators.

What content already exists?

SEED has funded a range of content for the LTS Online Service over the past two years, produced by both LTS and external content providers. It includes resources to support Gaelic medium education, the teaching of Scottish history, 5-14 mathematics, and the use of ICT in the classroom, as well as new information literacy and study skills resources, which will be available soon.
