Why did we change the website?

The site was set up in the early days of Glow to provide essential information and guidance. Things have moved on and we want to provide a site that keeps up to date with stories of emerging practice around the country, showing how people are using Glow to support Curriculum for Excellence.

How did we decide what changes to make?

  • We analysed the enquiries we receive from users about the Glow Scotland website.
  • We examined search records to see what words and phrases people are typing into our search engine.
  • We looked at web statistics to see which areas of the Glow Scotland site were most popular with users.

We found that many users of the site were primarily interested in finding practical answers to their questions, for example ‘What’s in Glow?’ (in terms of tools and content) or ‘How do I log in to Glow?’

Although Glow Scotland already contained practical information, over time the site had grown and had become over-complex in structure.

We decided to re-structure Glow Scotland to create a simple website with a clear focus on providing the practical information that our users want.

What changes have we made?

  • We have simplified the left-hand navigation menu, and tried to make the options clearer.
  • We have introduced new features, including Flash-based tutorials and the 'Glow in your area' section with its interactive map.
  • Our Glow Scotland blog will allow us to gather the latest news from around the country, keeping the site fresh and current.

What are we planning to do now?

This is only the first stage in the continuous improvement of the Glow Scotland website. We will keep developing the website using your feedback.

We will shortly be adding a communications resource bank to the site, with downloadable resources to help you raise awareness of Glow within your local authority.
