Glow

The Interconnect

This is a broadband connection from every local authority in Scotland to the Glow datacentre. It also links national bodies such as LTS and the SQA.

Currently it provides a means of very fast, high quality communications between the connected organisations and a route to the internet. It will provide a direct communication path between the local authorities and the Glow datacentre.

This will start to fill up with rich content - such as videos, interactive games, audio and much more. The Interconnect also allows local authorities to share data, quickly and efficiently.

Technical implementation

The connections were installed during the second half of 2003 and became fully operational during the first half of 2004.

All 32 local authorities are now using the Interconnect to provide onward access to the internet for a combination of schools, administration departments and the People's Network in libraries.

The Interconnect will be a critical link for providing access to Glow now that it is implemented.

Interconnect performance

The Netsight Monitor operated by UKERNA, provides a public view of the networks status. Authorised technical staff at organisations using the Interconnect can access traffic and performance statistics for their connection using a supplied User ID and password.

Organisations wishing to confirm log-in details for this service should contact the Glow Technology Adviser at LTS.
